In a semi-floating axle, the wheel carries the vehicle’s weight and the axle shaft transmits torque through the hub. The inner end of the axle must be secured inside the differential carrier, so it doesn’t move axially. This is done with a seal retainer plate that clamps around the axle and carries the oil seal, or with a C-shaped locking ring (C lock) that locks the axle in the carrier. This arrangement keeps the axle in place without relying on bolts or wheel-end components, while the outer bearing supports the load. That’s why seal retainer plates or C locks are the correct method.
