When is used antifreeze not considered hazardous waste?

When used in a different vehicle

When disposed of in regular trash

When reclaimed and returned to the same vehicle

Used antifreeze isn’t treated as hazardous waste when it has been reclaimed and returned to the same vehicle. Reclaiming removes contaminants and restores the coolant to a usable form, so it’s considered a recycled product rather than waste. That reuse in the same vehicle completes the recycling loop and means it doesn’t fall under hazardous waste disposal rules. If it isn’t reclaimed, or is simply disposed of, mixed with other wastes, or used in another way, it remains hazardous waste and must be managed accordingly.
